PI-LED Technology – Patented Lighting Technology by KITEO

The K-Horizon surface-mounted luminaire uses KITEO's globally patented PI-LED technology with three individually controllable channels. These enable precise colour temperature control along the Planckian locus and produce spectrally optimised light that corresponds to the natural progression of daylight. This level of precision allows K-Horizon to achieve consistently high energy efficiency across the entire colour temperature range – from warm white to cool daylight – without losses in efficiency.

Intelligent Control and Automation

Two control options are available: ZigBee 3.0 for wireless networking with smart home systems or DALI DT8 for professional lighting control. Both options enable full dimming (1–100 %), colour temperature variation and Over-The-Bus updates for future firmware upgrades – without installation work after commissioning.

Modular Surface-Mounted Design and Design Options

The surface-mounted luminaire with dimensions of 65 mm (W) × 108 mm (H) and various lengths fits into modern and classic interior designs. It is available in two surface finishes – natural anodised and black (RAL 9005) – and two light distribution optics (direct-beam microprismatic or direct-beam opal). Illuminated corner elements (603 mm) and continuous-row lighting configurations are available on request.

Biologically Effective Lighting – Circadian Rhythm Support

The melanopic efficacy factor (alpha_smel) varies depending on the selected colour temperature and supports the natural 24-hour rhythm of the human body. During the day, higher alpha values (cool white, up to 1.2) minimise melatonin secretion to support alertness and concentration. In the evening, lower values (warm white, from 0.244) promote natural tiredness. KITEO recommends application in accordance with DIN SPEC 5031-100 for standards-compliant biological lighting design.

Typical Applications

Modern office building with 40 employees: K-Horizon surface-mounted luminaires are controlled in groups per floor using DALI DT8 – cool white in the morning (5,500–6,500 K) for high concentration, neutral white at midday (4,000 K), and warm white in the evening (2,700 K) for relaxation. Result: improved productivity and better sleep quality for employees. – Design hotel lobby: K-Horizon surface-mounted luminaires integrated via ZigBee adapt the lighting atmosphere to the time of day – from a warm welcoming atmosphere (2,000 K) in the morning and neutral meeting lighting (4,000 K) to an elegant candlelight atmosphere (1,800 K) in the evening, without replacing the luminaires.

Operating voltage 1~ N PE 230 VAC / 50–60 Hz, circuit breaker type B or C depending on the number of luminaires (see installation instructions). Permissible operating temperature 10–35 °C. CE and RoHS compliant. Energy efficiency class F. Light source is not replaceable – dispose of as electronic waste at the end of its service life. Suitable for indoor installation only. Installation and maintenance must be carried out exclusively by trained specialist personnel. Photometric tolerance ±15 %, electrical tolerance ±15 %.
