Product Benefits in Detail
Operating Modes and Control Flexibility
The wDALI-2 BT5 CW-WW LED Dimmer supports three configurable operating modes: DT8 mode uses a single DALI address for combined brightness and color temperature control according to DALI Device Type 8. Balance&Dim operates with two separate DALI addresses for independent control of overall brightness and channel distribution (e.g., for targeted color temperature shifting). Dim2Warm uses a single DALI address where dimming operations simultaneously alter color temperature. This flexibility enables optimal integration into different DALI system landscapes.
Wireless DALI Integration and Range
Radio connectivity is provided via the wDALI-2 BT5 Bridge, which can pair up to 10 dimmer modules. Communication is based on Bluetooth 5 Long Range with encrypted transmission. Typical radio range is 8–12m in normal building environments; up to 150m is possible in open field. Metal enclosures and moisture zones may reduce range – reception problems can usually be resolved through alternative positioning or device orientation.
Power Supply and Power Management
The device operates with input voltages from 12V to 48V DC (SELV safety extra-low voltage). During planning, it is recommended to choose input voltage 3–10V above LED voltage (e.g., 24V for 4–6 LEDs, 36V for 6–9 LEDs, 48V for 10–12 LEDs). Maximum output power per channel is 15.75W at 45V output voltage. No-load losses of approximately 180mW @12V enable efficient continuous operation scenarios.
PWM Frequency Selection and Flicker-Free Operation
PWM frequency is switchable between 122Hz, 250Hz, 500Hz and 1kHz. This flexibility enables adaptation to different camera sensor types and avoids unwanted interference patterns during video recording (e.g., 500Hz or 1kHz for professional video production). The low standard frequency of 122Hz also reduces high-frequency emissions in sensitive applications.
Installation and Connection
The compact housing (59 × 33 × 15mm) fits in standard flush-mount boxes and luminaire integration compartments. Connection is via spring-force terminals (Push-In Cage Clamp) for wires 0.2–1.5mm² without ferrules or 0.25–1mm² with ferrules. Installation and commissioning must be performed by qualified personnel. After connection, the device must be paired via the wDALI-2 Bridge and configured via DALI-Cockpit software.
Typical Applications
Use in a modern office luminaire with warm white (2700K) and cold white (6500K) LED modules: The dimmer is installed in the luminaire, the bridge positioned in the building DALI network. A daylight sensor controls progressive adaptation of brightness and color temperature via the bridge during daytime. At night, the luminaire is operated in warm white mode with reduced brightness. Second example: Retail exhibition lighting with multiple product zones. Each zone receives a wDALI-2 dimmer for individual scene design (e.g., warm for textiles, neutral-white for electrical devices). Scene programming is done centrally via DALI-Cockpit, switching commands and dimming curves are freely customizable.
