What is an LED driver?

Due to the (LED) diode characteristic curve, the current/voltage ratio is exponential. 

Small voltage changes immediately lead to large current changes and can thermally destroy the diode. For this reason, a constant current from LED drivers is specified/imprinted for the operation of LEDs. The LED driver "drives" a defined, constant current through the LED(s).
