Lunatone DALI RM8/16 – DALI interface with relay, PWM, or 1–10 V output
The Lunatone DALI RM8/16 modules are DALI interface devices designed for controlling electronic control gear (ECG) with PWM or 1–10 V control input. All versions are equipped with an integrated switching relay, allowing direct on/off control of the load power supply.
- DALI interface for controlling ECGs with PWM or 1–10 V control input
- Integrated relay for additional switching of the ECG power supply
- PWM versions provide high immunity to interference
- Suitable for PWM-controlled LED drivers (e.g. Meanwell HLG, HLN, NPF, LPF series)
- Analog 1–10 V version with automatic output calibration
- Conversion of the DALI 8-bit Direct Arc Power level to PWM (0–100 %) or 1–10 V
- DALI Device Type 5 (DT5) compatible – linear or logarithmic dimming curve
- PWM versions with selectable output range (0–100 % or 10–100 %)
- Suitable for multiple control gear devices (control current up to 2 mA)
- RM16 versions designed for high inrush currents up to 160 A
- Powered directly from the DALI bus – no external power supply required
- DALI addressable, group and scene capable
- Galvanic isolation between DALI input and PWM or analog output
Available Variants
- DALI RM8 PWM: PWM output (0–100 %, 14 bit, 488 Hz) with relay up to 1000 VA – ideal for PWM-capable LED drivers
- DALI RM8 1–10 V: Analog 1–10 V output with automatic calibration – for classic 1–10 V ECGs
- DALI RM16 1–10 V: High-power version with relay up to 2000 VA and high inrush current capability
- DALI RM16 0–10 V PWM-DE: PWM output with high-power relay for professional installations and ceiling mounting
Connection
The module is connected directly to the DALI bus and does not require an external power supply, as it is powered via the bus itself (current consumption depending on the variant: 3 mA to 4.2 mA). The DALI connection is polarity-free.
PWM versions can sink control currents up to 2 mA, while the analog 1–10 V version supports up to 1 mA. The relays of the RM8 modules are rated for continuous loads up to 1000 VA, while the RM16 versions support up to 2000 VA and high inrush currents of up to 160 A. Terminal blocks are suitable for conductor cross-sections of 0.5–1.5 mm².
Function
The interface converts the DALI dimming value (0–254) into a PWM signal or an analog output voltage. From firmware version 2.0 onwards, Device Type 5 is supported, allowing selection of linear or logarithmic dimming curves.
The relay contact is directly linked to the dimming level: Dimming value 0 → relay OFF, dimming value ≥ 1 → relay ON. This enables complete mains disconnection of the connected control gear when switched off.
In the event of a system failure, the control output is set to 100 % (10 V). The current relay state is retained. Depending on the firmware version, the relay behavior can be configured via the System Failure Level.
DALI Command Set
The modules comply with IEC 62386-102 (DALI control gear) and IEC 62386-206 (Device Type 5). Newer firmware versions additionally support the DALI-2 command GOTO LAST ACTIVE LEVEL.
Auto Calibration Mode
The DALI RM8 1–10 V version features an automatic output calibration function. After power-up, stored calibration values are evaluated and recalibration is performed if required (calibration time up to 2 minutes).
Calibration can be disabled or triggered manually using the DALI Cockpit software. During calibration, the device does not respond to dimming commands.
